Jesse Cowgirl Hat Cookies

Ingredients & Supplies

•Batch of chilled sugar cookie dough (homemade or store-bought)

•Flour

•2-inch round cookie cutter

•Red cookie icing

•Butter knife or spatula for

spreading the icing

•Large red gumdrops

•Tube of white decorator’s icing (with a narrow, round tip to pipe on the lacing)

Instructions

Cover a tray with waxed paper and set it aside.

Roll out the sugar cookie dough between sheets of flour-dusted waxed paper to a 1/4-inch thickness.

Cut out the cookies and place them on the tray. Place the tray in the refrigerator to chill the cookies while you heat the oven to the proper temperature.

When the oven is heated, transfer the cookies to a baking sheet. Bake and cool them according to the recipe directions.

Turn the cookies upside down so the flat surfaces are facing up and then frost them with the red icing.

Once the icing has set, add a top to each hat by slicing the domed top off a red gumdrop. Squeeze a quarter-sized dollop of white decorator’s icing onto the bottom of the gumdrop and gently press it down onto the center of the cookie so the icing spreads around the base and resembles a white hatband.

Pipe a line of trim around the perimeter of each cookie hat brim, then pipe a series of short lines over the top of the trim to resemble white lacing.

Woody’s Sheriff Star Cookies

Ingredients & Supplies

•Batch of chilled sugar cookie dough (homemade or store-bought)

•Flour

•2 star-shaped cookie cutters, one slightly larger than the other

• Yellow-colored sugar

•Tube of decorator’s icing

•Small round yellow candies (such as M&M’s candies)

Instructions

Cover a tray with waxed paper and set it aside.

Roll out the sugar cookie dough between sheets of flour-dusted waxed paper to a 1/4-inch thickness.

Cut out an equal number of the two different sizes of stars. Use a spatula to transfer them to the tray. Place the tray in the refrigerator to chill the cookies while you heat the oven to the proper temperature.

When the oven is heated, transfer the larger stars to a baking sheet and return the tray (with the smaller stars still on it) to the refrigerator.

Bake the larger stars according to the recipe directions or until they just begin to brown around the edges. Allow them to cool on the baking sheet for about 1 minute and then transfer them to the wire cooling racks.

Remove the smaller stars from the refrigerator and sprinkle yellow-colored sugar on them. Transfer them to a baking sheet. Bake and cool them as you did the first batch.

When the cookies are thoroughly cooled, squeeze a quarter-sized dollop of icing onto the center of each larger star and then gently press a smaller star down on top of it.

Use small dabs of icing to secure round yellow candies atop the tips of the larger star.
