Greetings from the coop! Another week and another blog that's for the birds!
Java, Juliet and Midnight are doing well and getting bigger all the time. They seem to have grown a little more every time I see them (and I see them several times a day!). In fact, they look quite different from even a week ago.
I've recently opened up the upper part of the coop, otherwise known as "the loft" and they're not quite sure what to make of it yet. With great trepidations, Java has ventured up the ramp to investigate but not even the chicken feed I placed up there can convince her to actually go in. She gets all the feed she can reach while still sitting on the ramp, stretching her neck as far as possible without actually entering. Juliet prefers a bird's-eye view from the top of her water dish. Eventually, they'll figure it out and move on up to the Eastside, to their deluxe apartment in the sky.
They are also graduating to some leafy additions to their regular food. See how the three react to a lettuce leaf being introduced on this video:
Stay tuned for more updates and make sure to come visit the girls before they move on to their new homes.
See you next week for another edition of Just Hatched.
